Safe Spaces
Safety is our top priority. We ensure that our facilities and outdoor spaces are secure, clean, and designed for children's well-being. Children can explore and learn in a safe and protected environment.
Natural Learning
Nature plays a vital role in our learning environment. We incorporate natural elements into our spaces to inspire curiosity, connection to the environment, and a sense of wonder. Children engage with the natural world through outdoor activities and exploration.
Holistic Growth
We believe in holistic growth, nurturing children's physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Our programs focus on the whole child, promoting well-rounded learning experiences that foster a love for learning and a sense of community.
Our Child Safe Environment Procedure is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of children in our centre by aligning with national standards and fostering a culture of vigilance and care.
Key Components
We have adopted National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, where we:
-
Regularly review and update the Child Safe Environment Policy, incorporating feedback from families and children;
-
Introduce all staff, including new educators, students, and volunteers, to the policy during their induction; and
-
Have developed a Statement of Commitment to child safety in consultation with the community.
Complaints/Grievances
-
Maintain a clear Complaints/Grievance Policy, ensuring all parties understand the procedures for raising concern.
-
Educate staff on recognizing and appropriately responding to children’s expressions of distress or harm.
-
Address complaints promptly, investigating and documenting them impartially, and notify regulatory authorities of serious incidents within 24 hours.
Staffing Provisions
-
Review policies related to staff induction, professional development, and performance regularly.
-
Ensure all staff acknowledge understanding of the Code of Conduct.
-
Verify that volunteers and students possess necessary Working with Children Checks (WWCC) and are supervised appropriately.
-
Conduct annual performance reviews and develop professional development plans for educators.
Recruitment
-
Embed child safety principles throughout the recruitment process.
-
Perform comprehensive pre-employment checks, including references, WWCC, and, where applicable, national police checks.
-
Implement a probationary period for new employees, followed by thorough induction on child safe practices.
Child Protection
-
Keep the Child Protection Policy current and ensure all staff are familiar with mandatory reporting requirements.
-
Provide training on child protection laws and reporting obligations.
-
Introduce protective behaviours to children through educational programs, supported by risk assessments.
-
Maintain records related to child safety and well-being for at least 45 years, ensuring they are clear, objective, and securely stored.
Physical and Online Environment
-
Regularly assess and maintain the safety of physical environments, conducting daily inspections and risk assessments.
-
Ensure adequate supervision and adherence to child-to-educator ratios.
-
Implement and follow policies related to emergency procedures, safe storage of hazardous materials, and cyber safety to protect children in both physical and online spaces.
-
By adhering to these structured procedures, we create and maintain an environment that prioritizes the safety, well-being, and development of all children under our care.
